To report a crypto scam, file a report with your country's national fraud centre, tell the exchange or wallet service you used, and keep every record of the transfers. Reports rarely bring money back quickly, but they help police trace funds and warn others. Reporting is free everywhere, so anyone who asks for a fee to file for you is a warning sign.

How do you report crypto scams in the USA?

Start with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov. IC3 asks for the crypto addresses involved, the amounts and coin types, the transaction hashes, the dates and times, and how you met the scammer, including websites, apps and phone numbers. It encourages reports even when no money was lost. People aged 60 or older can get help filing through the National Elder Fraud Hotline at 833-372-8311.

Also report to the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. The FTC says to contact the exchange or crypto ATM operator straight away, tell it the transaction was fraudulent and ask for a reversal, while noting that crypto lacks the legal protections of card payments.

If the scam was a fake trading or investment platform, the CFTC and SEC say to report it to them as well. The CFTC takes tips online or at 1-866-366-2382, and the SEC uses its online Tips, Complaints and Referrals form. To find the transaction hashes, see how to use a blockchain explorer.

How do you report a crypto scam website?

In the UK, the National Cyber Security Centre has a free form for suspicious websites. It analyses each link and may block the site or work with hosting companies to take it down, though it cannot tell you the outcome. The NCSC says the form is not for reporting a crime, so if you lost money, report that separately. In the US, the FTC directs scam reports, including fake sites, to ReportFraud.ftc.gov. Signs of a fake platform are covered in how to spot a fake crypto exchange.

How do you report a crypto scammer in the UK?

Report Fraud, run by the City of London Police, replaced Action Fraud on December 4, 2025. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, report at reportfraud.police.uk or call 0300 123 2040. In Scotland, call Police Scotland on 101. If money left a bank account, the government's Stop Think Fraud campaign says to call your bank quickly, using 159 or a number you trust.

How do you report a crypto scammer in Canada?

The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre asks victims to contact local police first, since police do the investigating. Then report to the CAFC online at reportcyberandfraud.canada.ca, which allows anonymous reports, or by phone at 1-888-495-8501 on weekdays.

After you report, expect contact from fake recovery firms. IC3 warns about recovery services that charge up front. Read what are crypto recovery scams and what to do if you are scammed for next steps.
