Bitcoin slips back under $80,000 on Sunday night before a week packed with the Fed decision, Strategy's preferred-stock vote, Coinbase earnings and an $11 billion options expiry

Bitcoin gave back its Sunday recovery and was trading at about $79,724 at 7:04pm Pacific, down about 1.4% over 24 hours, according to CoinDesk's price page. Earlier on Sunday it had climbed to about $80,936, after a Saturday low of $79,146 that Investing.com called its weakest level in more than a month.
The weekend drop was costly for leveraged traders. About $815 million of crypto positions were liquidated in the 24 hours to Saturday afternoon, affecting about 201,000 traders, according to CoinGlass data cited by The Block. Most of the Saturday losses were long positions.
The coming week gives the market several reasons to move. The Federal Reserve's rate-setting committee meets on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 27 and 28, per the Fed's calendar. In September the committee raised its target range by a quarter point, to 3.75% to 4%, in a 12-0 vote, per the Fed's statement. Traders are watching whether it holds or tightens again, Investing.com reported.
Strategy holds a special shareholder meeting on October 28. Voting closes at 11:59pm Eastern on October 27 on a proposal to change the terms of four of its perpetual preferred stock series; if approved, daily dividends would begin on November 1 for STRC and on January 1 for the other three, according to the company's SEC filing.
Coinbase publishes its third-quarter results after the market closes on Thursday, October 29, with a question-and-answer session on X at 2pm Pacific, the exchange said. On Friday, October 30, about $11 billion of bitcoin options on Deribit expire at 4am Eastern, the largest expiry on the exchange's calendar, BeInCrypto reported. Bitcoin's next mining difficulty adjustment is estimated at about 4.7% higher, late on Thursday UTC, per mempool.space.
