What is Jupiter (JUP) on Solana?
Jupiter is a DEX aggregator on Solana that searches many exchanges to route each swap, and JUP is the token holders use to vote in its DAO.
Jupiter is a DEX aggregator on Solana. It does not hold its own big pool of tokens. Instead, it checks prices across many decentralized exchanges and market makers, then routes a trade through whichever path gives the best result. Jupiter calls itself the liquidity infrastructure behind most of Solana's DeFi.
How does Jupiter exchange work?
When a user asks to swap one token for another, Jupiter's routing compares several engines and picks the best execution price. Its own engine, Metis, can split one trade across several Solana DEXs and route it through more than one hop, for example SOL to USDC to another token. A second system, JupiterZ, asks professional market makers to quote prices from outside the blockchain. Jupiter also draws on some third-party routers.
Prices can still move before a trade lands. The gap is called slippage. In Jupiter's default Ultra mode, slippage and priority fees are set automatically. In Manual mode the user sets them.
What are Jupiter exchange fees?
As of October 2026, Jupiter's documents say:
- Ultra mode charges a commission of 0% to 0.5%, depending on the pair. Stablecoin pairs tend to sit near the low end and new, volatile tokens near the high end.
- Manual mode charges no Jupiter commission.
- Network fees go to Solana, not Jupiter, and are paid even if a trade fails. Optional priority fees and tips can speed a trade up.
If a wallet has too little SOL to pay fees, Jupiter can cover them through a relayer and add that cost to the swap.
What does the Jupiter crypto app offer?
Jupiter's products go beyond swaps:
- Limit orders that execute when a target price is reached.
- Recurring orders, which split a purchase into regular buys over time, a form of dollar-cost averaging.
- Perpetual futures with leverage, which can magnify losses.
- Lending and borrowing against collateral, and prediction markets.
- Jupiter Wallet, a browser extension, and Jupiter Mobile, a phone app that can pair with the website.
- Quick Accounts, which let users log in with email or a social account instead of a seed phrase.
Swaps on Solana settle on the blockchain, so a mistaken trade cannot simply be reversed by calling customer service.
What is the JUP token?
JUP is the governance token of the Jupiter protocol. Holders can stake it to vote on proposals in the Jupiter DAO and earn staking rewards.
JUP launched with an airdrop that opened on January 31, 2024. About 955,000 wallets were eligible to claim from the first 1 billion tokens, out of a total supply of 10 billion, Decrypt reported at the time.
Jupiter says JUP does not give holders a direct share of protocol fees. Instead, half of its onchain revenue is used to buy JUP for a long-term reserve. Jupiter's other tokens, such as JLP and JupSOL, are separate products and are not governance tokens.
