What is Ledger Live (Ledger Wallet app)?
Ledger Live, renamed Ledger Wallet in October 2025, is Ledger's free desktop and mobile app for managing crypto held on a Ledger hardware device.
Ledger Live is the free app made by Ledger, the French hardware wallet maker, for managing crypto held on its devices. As of October 2026 its official name is Ledger Wallet. Ledger announced the change at its Op3n event on October 23, 2025, and its own product page now says the app was formerly Ledger Live. At the same time Ledger began calling its devices signers rather than wallets.
What does the Ledger Live app do?
The app is the screen and keyboard for a hardware wallet. The device keeps the private keys offline. The app shows balances, builds transactions and passes them to the device, where the owner checks the details and approves them with a button or touch.
Ledger's product page lists these features:
- Portfolio tracking across more than 100 blockchains, with support for over 15,000 coins and tokens.
- Sending and receiving crypto.
- Buying through outside providers, with quotes compared from more than 50 of them.
- Swapping between assets, with the details reviewed on the device before approval.
- Staking ETH, SOL and some stablecoins.
- Connecting directly to decentralized apps without a browser extension.
The buying, swapping and staking services come from partner companies, so their fees and terms vary. The guide to Trezor vs Ledger compares Ledger with its best-known rival.
Is there a Ledger Live desktop app?
Yes. The desktop version runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and the mobile app runs on iOS and Android. Ledger's developer documentation notes the renaming is still working its way through older pages, so both names appear in guides and settings, and many people still search for Ledger Live.
What is the official Ledger Live website?
Ledger's own pages link to the app's download section, which as of October 2026 sits on its shop.ledger.com site, with links to the Apple App Store and Google Play for mobile. Ledger's phishing guidance says to download the app only from its official site. It warns that scammers use lookalike spellings of its name, and lists its genuine email domains as ledger.com, ledger.fr, ledgerwallet.com and ledger.zendesk.com. Pages offering a Ledger Live login are a warning sign, since the app is installed software, not a website.
How do fake Ledger Live apps steal crypto?
In 2025, security researchers reported a malware campaign targeting Mac users that replaced the real app with a copy. The fake app showed an error message, then asked for the 24-word recovery phrase to fix it, and sent the words to the attackers.
Ledger says it will never ask for the recovery phrase, which should only ever be entered on the device itself. It also says it does not contact users by phone, text or social media direct message, cannot block a device remotely, and that unexpected airdropped tokens can lead to phishing sites. The guide to crypto phishing and wallet drainers covers these tricks in more detail.
