Money kept leaving the US crypto exchange-traded funds last week. Spot bitcoin ETFs recorded a net outflow of $228.4 million over the five sessions to Friday, October 16, and spot ether ETFs lost $320.1 million, according to the daily tables published by Farside Investors. Together that is $548.5 million.

Friday alone saw $82.4 million leave the bitcoin funds, with BlackRock's IBIT losing $71.8 million and Fidelity's FBTC $10.6 million, while the ether funds lost $69.7 million, all of it from BlackRock's ETHA. Tuesday was the week's only day of bitcoin inflows, at $175.7 million; Wednesday's $261.4 million outflow was the largest.

The ether side was the weaker of the two. ETHA shed about $299 million over the week, roughly 93% of the category's total, according to crypto.news, which tallied the Farside data. Fidelity's FETH was one of the few funds to take in money, at $10.5 million. Across five fund categories, including Solana, Zcash and Hyperliquid products, crypto.news put the week's net outflow at $610.7 million, down from $1.29 billion the week before.

The withdrawals came as risk assets sold off. The Nasdaq fell 2.15% on Friday and the VIX volatility index jumped 22% as oil traded above $100 a barrel, CoinDesk reported. Bitcoin held up better, ending Friday near $81,500 and trading at about $81,400 at 7am Pacific on Saturday, down about 0.6% over 24 hours, per CoinDesk. Monday's flow data will show whether the week's late selling carried into the new one.
