Grayscale is opening a second route into its ETFs for investors who already hold the coins. The Stamford, Connecticut, asset manager said on October 21, 2026, that eligible investors can now hand over the underlying digital asset directly in exchange for shares in 10 of its products, rather than selling the crypto for cash and buying shares on an exchange, according to its news release and The Block.

The products are the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF, the Grayscale Ethereum Staking Mini ETF, and ETFs tied to Solana, XRP, Dogecoin, Chainlink, Avalanche, Sui, Hyperliquid and Zcash. Minimum contributions are approximate and move with prices; as of October 20 they ranged from about $80,300 for the Solana Staking ETF to about $364,800 for the bitcoin fund, per the release.

Grayscale pitches the route as a way to move an existing crypto position into a brokerage or retirement account, cut self-custody burden and potentially lower execution costs. Steve Vanourny, Grayscale's head of index, said in the release that "investors are seeking more secure and efficient ways to manage their crypto holdings."

The option builds on the SEC's July 2025 approval of in-kind creations and redemptions for crypto exchange-traded products, which applied to authorized participants, per The Block. Grayscale's version still runs through an authorized participant or a conduit to one, and depends on facilitator fees and product terms.

The release lists the catches: converting tokens may require selling or swapping them, with slippage and timing risk; shares can trade at a premium or discount to net asset value; and the transfer may trigger a taxable event. Grayscale's ETPs are not registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940.
