Justin Sun says TRON's quantum shield is live on testnet and can hit mainnet 'at any time'

TRON says it has switched on quantum-resistant cryptography on its test network. In a post on X late on October 9, Pacific time, founder Justin Sun wrote that the network is tracking progress in quantum computing and AI and is "ready to bring quantum resistance to mainnet at any time." He added that TRON is set to be one of the few major blockchains that is quantum-resistant before what the industry calls Q-Day, the point at which quantum computers could break today's encryption.

The post did not say when the change would reach TRON's main network, which algorithms are used, or whether users would need to move funds to new addresses. Cointelegraph, which reported the post on Saturday, noted that it offered no independent verification of the claims.

TRON is not alone. Cointelegraph listed Algorand's plan for quantum-resistant accounts by 2027 and an Ethereum Foundation proposal for moving accounts to new cryptography. Starknet said on October 8 that it is considering becoming its own layer 1 partly to reach full quantum resistance by 2027.

What to watch: technical documents or code from TRON's developers, and a mainnet date.
