Bitcoin snaps a three-week winning streak, closing the week down 2.8% at $82,123 as ether sinks almost 7%

Bitcoin's winning run is over. The largest cryptocurrency closed Friday at about $82,123, according to The Rio Times, up 0.55% on the day but 2.81% lower than a week ago, when it was trading above $87,000. That ends a three-week streak of weekly gains.
Ether had a rougher week. It finished near $2,488, up 0.63% on Friday but down 6.77% over seven days. Solana was around $109 and XRP around $1.39 late in the day.
The week's low came on Thursday, when bitcoin fell to about $80,300 as oil rallied on reports of possible new US strikes on Iran. It recovered after President Trump said the US would not attack Iran before the November 3 midterm elections, CoinDesk reported. The Rio Times pointed to high oil prices, expected interest-rate rises and Middle East tension as the main pressures.
The rebound came without fresh borrowing: bitcoin futures open interest fell 1.9% to $27.1 billion, according to Coinalyze data cited by CoinDesk.
What to watch: Saturday, October 10, is one year since the 2025 flash crash, and traders are watching whether bitcoin holds above $80,000 into the weekend.
