No, Kraken is not publicly traded. As of October 2026 its parent company, Payward, Inc., remains privately held, and its shares cannot be bought on a public stock exchange. Payward has taken the first formal step toward an initial public offering, but it has not listed and has not set a date. For how the exchange itself works, see what Kraken is.

Has Kraken filed for an IPO?

Yes, confidentially. On November 19, 2025, Payward, which does business as Kraken, said it had confidentially submitted a draft registration statement on Form S-1 to the SEC for a proposed IPO of its common stock. The release said the number of shares and the price range had not been decided, and that any offering would happen only after the SEC finished its review and subject to market conditions.

Because the draft was submitted confidentially, its contents have not been made public, and as of October 2026 Payward has not published a prospectus.

When is the Kraken IPO?

There is no date. In March 2026 CoinDesk reported that Payward had put its IPO plans on hold because of difficult market conditions. On September 2, 2026, it reported, citing two people familiar with the matter, that the company is not planning to go public until the second quarter of 2027 at the earliest. Kraken declined to comment.

The reasons given were weaker crypto prices and trading volumes, and poor share performance from some crypto companies that listed recently, which cooled investor demand. CoinDesk noted that Grayscale, Consensys and Ledger had delayed similar plans. Any timing depends on Payward and on market conditions, and could change.

Is Kraken a public company?

No. Kraken is funded privately. Shortly before its filing, Payward raised $800 million at a $20 billion valuation, including $200 million from Citadel Securities, CoinDesk reported. For the second quarter of 2026 it reported adjusted revenue of $508 million and 6.6 million funded accounts. These are company figures, not audited public filings.

Kraken's leadership is shared. In October 2024 board member Arjun Sethi became co-CEO alongside David Ripley, The Block reported, and CoinDesk still described Sethi as co-CEO in September 2026. Coinbase, by contrast, is listed on Nasdaq, as explained in is Coinbase a public company.

Can you buy Kraken stock?

Not on a stock exchange, because there is no listed Kraken share. Until Payward completes an IPO, its shares are held privately, including by investors in its 2025 funding round such as Citadel Securities.

People sometimes search "Kraken stock" for a different reason. In April 2025 Kraken began offering commission-free trading in US-listed stocks and ETFs through Kraken Securities LLC, a FINRA and SIPC member, starting in a group of states with a wider rollout planned. That lets customers trade other companies' shares on Kraken, not shares of Kraken. The difference between holding shares and holding coins is covered in crypto vs stocks.
