What is dogwifhat (WIF) crypto?
Dogwifhat is a Solana meme coin with the ticker WIF, based on a viral photo of a Shiba Inu in a pink knitted hat. It launched in 2023 and has no utility.
Dogwifhat is a meme coin on the Solana blockchain, traded under the ticker WIF. It is built around an internet photo of a Shiba Inu dog wearing a pink knitted hat. The name is a joke spelling of dog with hat. Like most meme coins, it has no product or income behind it.
What is dogwifhat crypto, and where did the meme come from?
The dog in the photo is Achi, a Shiba Inu born in September 2018 who lives with her owners in South Korea, according to Decrypt. Her owners knitted the hat, and the picture was taken when she was about two months old.
The image spread after a Fortnite streamer used it as his Twitter profile picture in 2019 and someone replied with the word dogwifhat. Gamers and esports accounts picked it up from there. The token came years later, in November 2023, from creators who remain anonymous.
What chain is dogwifhat on?
Dogwifhat is on Solana. It is a token issued on that network rather than a coin with its own blockchain, a distinction explained in coin vs token. The project's own site says plainly that Solana is the chain used for WIF and Ethereum is not.
Its official contract address, listed by both the project site and Coinbase, is EKpQGSJtjMFqKZ9KQanSqYXRcF8fBopzLHYxdM65zcjm. Copycat tokens often reuse a popular name, so the address, not the name, is what identifies the real one.
What is dogwifhat token used for?
Very little. Decrypt describes it as having no promises of new technology or actual utility, and the project's early slogan called it literally just a dog wif a hat. Coinbase lists a total supply of about 999 million WIF, nearly all of it in circulation. Holders can transfer and trade it, and that is the whole of what it does.
What is the WIF coin known for?
Its community has staged public stunts. In February 2024, holders started Sphere wif hat, a fundraiser to buy a week of advertising on the Sphere, the Las Vegas venue. The goal was $650,000, and The Block reported more than $240,000 raised by March 10, 2024. Decrypt says the target was met that month, yet the ad never appeared. A Sphere representative told Decrypt in January 2025 there was no plan for it to run.
The hat itself became a collectible. Decrypt reported that Achi's owners auctioned the original hat in August 2025, and that the winning bid of 6.8 BTC came from Finn, founder of the token launchpad Bags.
As with other meme coins, prices move on attention and mood. The risks are covered in what is a meme coin.
