Trezor Safe 3 vs 5 vs 7 is a comparison of the three current Safe models made by SatoshiLabs. All three are hardware wallets that keep keys offline and pair with the Trezor Suite app, but they differ in screen size, how you confirm actions, how they connect and how many secure chips they carry. The details below come from Trezor's own pages as of October 2026.

What is the difference between Trezor Safe 3, 5 and 7?

Trezor's hardware page sets out the main specs:

  • Safe 3. A 0.96-inch monochrome OLED screen with two physical buttons, USB-C, one OPTIGA Trust M secure element certified to EAL6+, and a plastic tamper-evident case.
  • Safe 5. A 1.54-inch color touchscreen with Gorilla Glass 3 and haptic feedback, USB-C, the same single secure element and a microSD slot.
  • Safe 7. A 2.5-inch color touchscreen, USB-C plus Bluetooth, two secure elements, a 330 mAh battery with Qi2 wireless charging and an aluminum body rated IP54 for dust and splashes.

The Safe 3 and Safe 5 are rated to work from minus 20 to 60 degrees Celsius, while the Safe 7 lists 0 to 45 degrees. How Trezor's open source approach compares with Ledger's is covered in Trezor vs Ledger.

What is the Trezor Safe 7?

The Safe 7 is the model with the most hardware. Its two secure elements are the OPTIGA Trust M and TROPIC01, which Trezor calls the first auditable secure element. It also uses post-quantum signatures to protect firmware updates, device authentication and the boot process, which Trezor describes as quantum-ready, a manufacturer claim. Bluetooth can be turned off in settings, and the device still works over USB-C if the battery fails.

How does the Trezor Safe 5 vs Safe 7 compare?

Both use touchscreens and support 12, 20 or 24-word backups, and Trezor lists multi-share backups for both. The Safe 5 is wired only and has one secure element. The Safe 7 adds the second chip, wireless use and a larger screen. On phones, Trezor Suite gives the Safe 7 full functionality on Android and on iOS over Bluetooth. Safe 5 and Safe 3 owners get full functionality on Android, but on iOS only portfolio tracking, buying and receiving.

How do you set up a Trezor safely with Trezor Suite?

Start from trezor.io/start, which links to the official Trezor Suite desktop app or the web version. Trezor says its devices ship without firmware, which you install during setup, and that a device with firmware already on it should not be used. The bootloader checks the firmware signature each time you connect, and Suite accepts only firmware signed by SatoshiLabs. On the Safe 7, both secure elements also run an authenticity check on first connection.

Trezor says to check the holographic seal over the USB-C port, to stop if the backup cards already have words on them, and to buy only from the Trezor Shop, its official Amazon stores or authorized resellers. Fake wallet apps and download links are a known trap, as how to spot a fake crypto wallet app explains.
