  • Swaps. A crypto-to-crypto exchange that produces a gain must be included in the tax base.

What is the Ecuador crypto tax rate?

There is no crypto rate. Gains join an individual's other income, which PwC says is taxed in 2026 at progressive rates from 0% on income up to $12,208 to 37% on income above $109,956. Residents are taxed on worldwide income, with a credit for foreign tax up to the Ecuadorian tax on that income. ECIJA says companies are generally taxed at 25% on net income and may carry losses forward for five years, within limits.

ECIJA adds that there are no special forms for crypto. Holdings should be listed under "other" assets in the wealth declaration, which does not itself create tax. Crypto is also included in the base for Ecuador's income tax on inheritances and gifts, with a portion up to $12,000 exempt.

Could Ecuador's crypto tax rules change?

Possibly. On October 2, 2026, assembly member Inés Alarcón presented an organic law on virtual assets covering registration, customer checks and supervision. The Assembly's summary does not mention tax provisions. Until any law passes, the general rules described above are what advisers apply. For other countries, see crypto tax around the world.

Rules differ by country and change often. Check the tax authority or a qualified professional for your own situation.
