Mongolia does not have a separate crypto tax as of October 2026. Crypto income is treated as taxable under the general income tax laws, and the 2021 virtual asset law changed the VAT law but not the income tax laws. Because no rule names crypto, how a gain is classified can matter.

Is there a crypto tax in Mongolia?

Not a dedicated one. The Law on Virtual Asset Service Providers came with amendments to several related laws, published by the Financial Regulatory Commission (FRC). Two touch tax. The VAT law gained an entry for virtual asset services, and the General Law of Taxation now requires information on registered providers to be shared with the tax authorities. Neither the Personal Income Tax law nor the Corporate Income Tax law was amended.

Lehman Law, a firm in Ulaanbaatar, says income from crypto trading is taxable but exempt from VAT. It does not give a crypto-specific rate. For the legal background, see is crypto legal in Mongolia.

What is the Mongolia crypto tax rate?

There is no crypto rate, so general rates are the reference point. According to PwC, individuals pay 10% on net gains from movable property, including securities, while sales of immovable property are taxed at 2% of gross proceeds. Dividends and interest face 10% withholding. PwC's summary does not say which of these categories covers crypto, and we found no tax authority guidance that settles it.

Companies include capital gains in annual taxable income. PwC lists corporate rates of 10% on the first MNT 6 billion of taxable income and 25% above that. Non-residents selling assets in Mongolia face a 20% withholding tax on the gross amount. For tracking gains, see what is crypto cost basis.

How is crypto mining in Mongolia taxed?

There is no mining-specific tax rule in the sources we reviewed. The 2021 law regulates service providers and does not address mining. A company that mines would fall under the general corporate income tax rules on its profits.

Some reports of a Mongolia mining ban actually refer to Inner Mongolia, a region of China, as explained in the legality guide. For general background, see how is crypto mining taxed and compare with crypto tax around the world.
