Coinbase vs Gemini is a comparison of two US crypto exchanges that work in similar ways but price trades, structure tiers and design their credit cards differently. Both offer a simple app screen and an advanced order book. This guide lays out the differences as of October 2026 without picking between them.

How do Coinbase vs Gemini fees compare?

On the simple screens, the models are close. Coinbase includes a spread in the quoted price and adds a Coinbase fee that varies by payment method, order size, asset and location. Gemini's fee schedule for its standard mode says instant and recurring orders also carry a spread, with a transaction fee that depends on payment method, order size, market conditions, jurisdiction and asset. Both firms say they may keep any excess spread and show the cost on the review screen.

The advanced screens use maker and taker fees that fall as volume rises. Coinbase said its US spot entry rates became 0.50% maker and 0.90% taker from September 16, 2026, with tiers starting at $10,000 in volume and also reachable by holding USDC. Gemini ActiveTrader's lowest tier is 0.60% maker and 1.20% taker. Gemini sets your tier by 30-day volume or total balance, whichever gives the cheaper tier, recalculated daily.

How does the Coinbase vs Gemini credit card compare?

Both are US credit cards that pay rewards in crypto, so ordinary credit rules apply. Our guide on how crypto cards work explains the types.

The Gemini Credit Card is a World Elite Mastercard issued by WebBank with no annual fee. It pays 4% on gas, EV charging and transit up to $300 a month, 3% on dining, 2% on groceries and 1% on everything else. Rewards can be taken in bitcoin or more than 50 other coins.

The Coinbase One Card runs on the American Express network and requires a Coinbase One membership. It pays bitcoin back at a rate tied to assets held on Coinbase, from 2% for balances up to $10,000 to 4% above $200,000. The higher rates apply only to the first $10,000 of purchases each month.

How do Coinbase vs Gemini vs Kraken compare?

Kraken follows the same two-screen pattern. Its app charges 1% on instant and recurring trades, plus spreads, and Kraken Pro's entry tier is 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker. The full Kraken comparison is in Kraken vs Coinbase. These figures change often, so the live fee pages are the reference.
