Yes, a Venmo crypto transfer to another wallet is possible. Verified US users can send bitcoin and other supported coins to an outside wallet or exchange, and receive crypto from one. The rules below come from Venmo's help pages as of October 2026. For buying on Venmo in the first place, see how to buy bitcoin on Cash App, PayPal or Venmo.

How do you send bitcoin from Venmo to an external wallet?

Venmo's help page lists these steps:

  1. Open the Crypto tab and pick the coin.
  2. Tap the transfer arrows, then Send.
  3. Enter a wallet address, a Venmo username or a recent recipient.
  4. Enter the amount, review the fee and tap Send.

Venmo says you may be able to choose the network, and the sender and receiver must use the same one. Some networks need a destination tag or memo, which must match what the recipient gives you. Each coin also needs a matching address type, so bitcoin must go to a bitcoin address. External transfers usually take a few minutes to a few hours.

As of October 2026, Venmo supports bitcoin, ether, litecoin, bitcoin cash, solana, chainlink and PayPal USD (PYUSD). Venmo Digital, a PayPal subsidiary, has provided the crypto service since May 19, 2026. Venmo's help center also explains Ethereum layer 2 networks.

Can you send bitcoin to Venmo?

Yes. In the Crypto tab, you pick the coin, tap the transfer arrows, choose Receive and share the address or QR code with the sender. For PYUSD you can switch between networks such as Ethereum and Solana. Venmo says your receiving address changes each time you get crypto, but older addresses still work. Receiving is free.

Both sending and receiving require identity verification first. If someone sends crypto to a Venmo user who has not verified, that person has 30 days to do so before the coins go back.

What are the Venmo crypto transfer limits and fees?

Venmo caps crypto transfers at $25,000 per week. Sending to another Venmo or PayPal account costs nothing. Sending to an outside address costs a network fee, paid in the coin you send, and Venmo shows it before you confirm. If you bought the crypto recently, Venmo may wait for the payment to settle, releasing it within up to seven days.

Venmo warns that transfers cannot be reversed, and coins sent to the wrong address or network may be lost. See what happens if you send crypto to the wrong address.

Is moving crypto out of Venmo taxable?

Venmo says it issues Form 1099-DA, starting with tax year 2025, if you sold or exchanged crypto in your Venmo wallet. Its tax page treats sales and exchanges as the reportable events. The IRS says moving crypto between wallets you own generally does not count as a digital asset transaction, unless you pay the transfer fee in crypto. You still need to keep the cost basis of coins you move. See crypto tax forms.

Rules differ by country and change often. Check the tax authority or a qualified professional for your own situation.
