You can buy bitcoin at a bank in a few cases, but for most people the answer is still no. As of October 2026, only a handful of large US banks offer direct bitcoin trading, and usually only to wealthier clients. Everyone else uses a bank account to fund an exchange, or buys a bitcoin fund through a bank's brokerage arm.

Can you buy bitcoin at PNC Bank?

Yes, if you are an eligible PNC Private Bank client. PNC announced on December 9, 2025 that these clients can buy, hold and sell spot bitcoin through PNC Private Bank Online. The service runs on Coinbase's Crypto-as-a-Service infrastructure, which supplies the trading and custody. PNC said it plans to open access to more client groups later, without giving a date. The launch was limited to Private Bank clients.

Can you buy bitcoin at Chase Bank?

Not inside a Chase account as of October 2026. In July 2025, JPMorganChase and Coinbase announced a partnership with three parts. Chase credit cards could fund Coinbase accounts, with fall 2025 as the target. Chase bank accounts could link directly to Coinbase wallets, and Ultimate Rewards points could move to Coinbase, both expected in 2026. In each case Coinbase, not Chase, sells the crypto.

Coinbase's own payment-methods page, checked in October 2026, says it no longer supports linking new credit cards and that some issuers block crypto purchases.

Separately, a JPMorgan digital assets executive told CNBC in October 2025 that the bank would let clients trade crypto. No launch date was given at the time.

Can you buy crypto at Bank of America?

Not directly as of October 2026. The Block reported in December 2025 that Bank of America would let advisers at Merrill, Merrill Edge and its Private Bank suggest a 1% to 4% crypto allocation, ending a rule that advisers could discuss crypto only when asked. Its investment office began covering four spot bitcoin ETFs on January 5, 2026, including BlackRock's IBIT and Fidelity's FBTC. That gives fund exposure, not coins in a wallet. The trade-offs are explained in bitcoin ETF vs owning bitcoin and what is a bitcoin ETF.

How do most people buy bitcoin with a bank?

They link a checking account to an exchange or app, send dollars by ACH or wire, and then place an order. Coinbase lists bank account transfers, debit cards and wires among its US payment methods. The steps, timing and holds are set out in how to buy bitcoin with a bank account. Banks' wider legal role in crypto, including custody and trust charters, is covered in banks and crypto.
