You can buy bitcoin at Walmart only in an indirect sense. As of October 2026, there is no bitcoin option at a Walmart register or on Walmart.com, but the Walmart-owned OnePay app offers crypto trading, and some stores host cash kiosks that have sold bitcoin. Each route works differently and has its own fees.

Can you use bitcoin at Walmart?

Not directly. A January 2026 fact check by Fact Crescendo found no evidence that Walmart's checkout systems accept crypto and noted that Walmart receives only US dollars. What OnePay users can do is sell bitcoin or ether inside the app for OnePay Cash, then spend those dollars at Walmart like any other balance. That is a sale of crypto first, not a crypto payment. How does Walmart OnePay crypto work?

OnePay is a finance app that Walmart developed with investment firm Ribbit Capital, Decrypt reported in October 2025, when news of the crypto plans first broke. OnePay's crypto page says trades and custody are handled by Zero Hash LLC and Zero Hash Liquidity Services LLC, and it names bitcoin and ether among the assets. You need a OnePay Cash account and must accept Zero Hash's terms.

The customer agreement, effective May 1, 2026, sets a tiered fee. Small trades carry flat fees, such as $1.99 on a $50.01 to $100 trade, while larger trades fall to percentages, down to 0.75% above $5,000. A spread of up to 1% may also be built into the price. The service is limited to states where Zero Hash is authorized, and sending coins to outside wallets is available only where OnePay and Zero Hash permit it. OnePay states that crypto is not covered by FDIC or SIPC insurance.

Is there a bitcoin machine at Walmart?

In October 2021, Bloomberg reported that Walmart was piloting bitcoin sales at 200 Coinstar kiosks inside its US stores, run with crypto firm Coinme. Coinstar later offered crypto through its own CINQ app, also powered by Zero Hash.

That is ending. Coinstar's notice says crypto was removed from the CINQ app on October 14, 2026, crypto will no longer be offered at Coinstar kiosks from November 19, 2026, and CINQ crypto wallets close on January 4, 2027. Users are told to sell or move their coins before then. Other kiosk services are not affected.

Cash crypto kiosks of any brand carry their own fees and risks. Read how bitcoin ATMs work and how crypto ATM scams work before using one.

Can you buy crypto at Walmart with cash?

Some payment apps let you add cash to a balance at retail checkouts and then buy crypto inside the app, a route covered in how to buy bitcoin with cash. The FTC warns that callers who tell you to buy gift cards, use a crypto ATM or move savings into a "more secure account" are impostors.
