Crypto on PayPal works as a custodial account inside your PayPal wallet. PayPal holds the coins for you, quotes a price with a fee, and in the US lets you move coins to and from outside wallets. Since May 19, 2026, US crypto services have been provided by PayPal Digital Inc, a New York-licensed subsidiary, while your dollar balance stays with PayPal Inc. This guide covers costs, limits and transfers. The purchase steps are in how to buy bitcoin on Cash App, PayPal or Venmo.

What are PayPal crypto fees?

PayPal's US fee page lists a transaction fee on buys, sells and conversions that depends on the amount:

  • $1.00 to $74.99, 2.20%
  • $75.00 to $200.00, 2.00%
  • $200.01 to $1,000.00, 1.80%
  • $1,000.01 and up, 1.50%

On top of that, the exchange rate includes a spread, which PayPal's terms estimate at 1.00% but say may be higher or lower. Buying or selling PayPal USD for dollars has no fee and no spread, though converting it into another coin does. Sending coins outside PayPal adds a blockchain network fee, shown before you confirm. The stablecoin is explained in what is PayPal USD (PYUSD).

What are PayPal crypto limits?

PayPal's US terms set these limits for PayPal-linked accounts:

  • Purchases. $100,000 per week.
  • Sends. $25,000 per week across transfers to other PayPal users and outside wallets.
  • Minimum. $1 per purchase or sale, and $2 per PYUSD conversion.

PayPal says limits can change for safety or legal reasons.

Which countries is PayPal crypto available in?

The full service, including transfers, is offered in the US and US territories. PayPal's US terms require individual users to be residents who are at least 18, and say some features may not be available in some US locations. PayPal also recommends using your account from the country where it is registered.

Outside the US the service is narrower. PayPal's UK terms, updated October 12, 2026, describe buying, holding and selling with no transfers in or out, and say the crypto service is not regulated by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority. PayPal's Luxembourg terms, last updated in January 2024, cover personal accounts only and also say outside transfers are not supported.

How do PayPal crypto wallet addresses and pending transfers work?

To receive, choose Receive in the Crypto Hub, pick the coin and generate an address. PayPal creates a new address for each transfer. PYUSD can arrive on Ethereum, Solana, Arbitrum or Stellar, but only to the address for the network chosen. Sending a coin to the wrong address type, such as BCH to a BTC address, loses it.

Received crypto shows as pending until the network confirms it and it passes PayPal's risk and compliance review. PayPal says transfers usually complete in about two hours. Its terms add that risk-based holds on received assets generally last up to 21 days and can last up to 180 days. Unconfirmed outgoing sends show as failed. Selling is covered in how to cash out crypto on PayPal, and it can be taxable, as explained in how crypto is taxed in the US.
