What is Coinbase One, and why did Coinbase charge me?

Coinbase One is a paid Coinbase membership billed monthly or yearly, and a recurring charge such as 4.99 or 29.99 dollars is usually its renewal.

Coinbase One is a paid membership on the Coinbase exchange that removes trading fees on crypto trades up to a monthly limit and adds perks such as boosted staking rewards and account protection. It renews automatically. If you see an unexpected charge from Coinbase, the most common reason is a Coinbase One plan or free trial that rolled into a paid month.

Why did Coinbase charge me $4.99 or $29.99?

As of October 2026, Coinbase lists three Coinbase One tiers. Basic costs $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year. Preferred costs $29.99 a month or $299.99 a year. Premium costs $299.99 a month or $2,999.99 a year. A recurring charge matching one of these amounts is almost certainly a membership fee.

Two situations catch people out. First, Coinbase sometimes offers a free trial, and its help page says the trial converts to a monthly paid plan unless you cancel before it ends. Second, Coinbase can charge a backup payment method if your main one fails. New members are enrolled in crypto balance backup by default, which uses stablecoins first and then your largest holding. You can opt out of that setting.

What are the Coinbase One benefits?

The main benefit is zero trading fees on crypto trades, up to $500 a month on Basic, $10,000 on Preferred and with no limit on Premium. Trades above the limit pay normal fees. Coinbase notes that it still includes a spread in the price when you buy, sell or convert, and that Coinbase Advanced, DEX trades and derivatives are excluded from the zero-fee perk. Our guide to crypto fees explains how a spread differs from a fee.

Other listed perks include a boost to staking rewards, rewards on USDC balances, account protection coverage, and on higher tiers priority support, free wires and rebates on Coinbase Advanced fees. Members can also apply for the Coinbase One Card, a credit card covered in how crypto cards work. Coinbase says benefits may change without notice and vary by region.

How do you cancel Coinbase One?

In the mobile app, open the menu, choose Coinbase One, select Manage, then Cancel membership. On a browser, select Coinbase One in the navigation bar and then Manage. Your benefits continue until the end of the current billing cycle.

Refunds are limited. Coinbase says it does not refund annual premium plans. Other refunds may be considered if you have not had one before, traded less than $25 in the cycle on Basic or $100 on Preferred and Premium, and the payment has cleared, which can take up to 8 days.

Is a Coinbase One charge ever a scam?

A charge you can match to your Coinbase One billing page is a real membership fee. Be wary of emails or texts about a charge that urge you to call a number or log in through a link. Check from inside the app instead, and see how to secure a crypto exchange account for ways to protect the login.
