How do you withdraw money from Coinbase?
To withdraw from Coinbase, sell crypto to your cash balance, then cash out to a bank, debit card or PayPal. Timing, fees and limits depend on the method.
To withdraw money from Coinbase, you first sell crypto for cash inside your account and then send that cash to a linked bank account, debit card or PayPal. The method chosen decides how fast the money arrives and what it costs. This guide covers US customers, based on Coinbase's help pages as of October 2026.
How do you transfer crypto to a bank account on Coinbase?
- Sell or convert. Sell the crypto for US dollars. Coinbase generally does not limit how much crypto can be sold into the cash balance. Sales carry a fee and a spread built into the quoted price, both shown on the preview screen.
- Choose cash out. Pick a linked payout method and the amount.
- Confirm and wait. The transaction details show an estimated completion date.
Moving coins to a wallet outside Coinbase is a different action, covered in how to send and receive crypto. Coinbase's separate self-custody app works differently from the exchange, as explained in Coinbase vs Coinbase Wallet.
What are the Coinbase cash out options?
Coinbase lists these payout routes for US customers:
- Bank account (ACH). 1 to 5 business days. Coinbase says ACH transfers typically complete 3 to 5 business days after a sell or withdrawal. Weekends and bank holidays do not count.
- Wire transfer. 1 to 3 business days, often the same business day if sent before 1 p.m. Pacific time.
- Instant to a bank. For USD or USDC balances sent to a US bank account on the RTP real-time payments network.
- Instant to a debit card. Through Visa Fast Funds or Mastercard Send, to a linked and verified card.
- PayPal. Listed as instant.
Instant cashouts usually take about 30 minutes, but can take up to 24 hours depending on the bank or card provider. Apple Pay and Google Pay can be used to buy but not to cash out.
Coinbase says a fee may apply depending on the payout method, and the exact amount appears before confirming. The broader picture of exchange charges is in what are crypto fees.
What are the Coinbase withdrawal limits?
Coinbase does not publish one fixed number. Limits vary by location, payment method, account history and region. They can be viewed under Settings, then Account limits, and some users can raise them by completing extra verification steps shown there.
For instant cashouts, bank cashouts are capped at $100,000 per transaction. Instant card cashouts have no Coinbase limit, though card issuers may set their own.
Why can't you withdraw from Coinbase yet?
The most common reason is a hold on a recent bank deposit. Coinbase credits deposits right away so they can be used to trade, but it still has to collect the money from the bank. It requests the funds within three to five days, and the held amount cannot be withdrawn until they arrive. Coinbase says the hold cannot be shortened because of banking rules.
