To buy bitcoin on Cash App, PayPal or Venmo, a user opens the app's crypto or bitcoin section, chooses an amount, reviews the price and fee shown on screen, and confirms. All three are aimed at U.S. customers and require identity verification. They differ in which coins they offer, how they charge, and how much can be bought or moved.
How do you buy bitcoin on Cash App?
Cash App focuses on bitcoin and stablecoins rather than a wide range of tokens. Its bitcoin page says purchases can start at $1.
On fees, Cash App says any spread, which is the difference between the market price and the price charged, is built into the price shown on the confirmation screen before the trade is completed. Its fees page lists some ways of buying that carry no fee or spread. Cash App announced lower fees and higher withdrawal limits for eligible users on February 9, 2026.
Can you buy bitcoin on Cash App and send to another wallet?
Yes. Cash App says it holds customer bitcoin in full reserve and that users can withdraw to their own self-custody wallet. It supports the Lightning Network for near-instant payments, although its February 2026 announcement said Lightning is not available to New York residents. Cash App refers to limits on sending and receiving bitcoin but its public bitcoin page does not list the amounts.
How do you buy bitcoin on PayPal?
PayPal's help pages say U.S. customers can buy, sell, hold and transfer PayPal USD, bitcoin, ether, litecoin, bitcoin cash, solana and chainlink. An up-to-date ID is required. PayPal says it discloses the exchange rate and transaction fee before each purchase or sale. Since May 19, 2026, PayPal's crypto services have been provided by a subsidiary, PayPal Digital Inc.
PayPal allows transfers to other wallets and exchanges. It shows the network fee when crypto is sent and caps weekly crypto transfers at $25,000.
How do you buy bitcoin on Venmo?
Venmo's crypto services are also provided by PayPal Digital, and it offers the same list of coins to U.S. personal accounts. Users must verify their identity, including a Social Security number or ITIN. Purchases can be funded with a Venmo balance, bank account or debit card. Venmo says its fee is a variable percentage based on the amount and is shown before the purchase is completed.
Venmo's help center lists limits of $20,000 in crypto purchases per week, $50,000 per 12 months and $25,000 per week in transfers. Sending to outside wallets is allowed, with network fees charged.
Is buying bitcoin on Cash App safe?
"Safe" has several meanings. Cash App says it keeps most bitcoin in offline cold storage, and its own disclosure warns that buying bitcoin carries risk and can lose money. Coins held in any of these apps are held by the company, which is known as a custodial wallet.
