What is Coinbase Advanced?
Coinbase Advanced is the trading platform inside Coinbase for experienced users, with order books, charts, more order types and maker-taker fees.
Coinbase Advanced is the advanced trading platform of the Coinbase exchange, built for people who want more control than the simple buy and sell screen offers. Coinbase says it replaced Coinbase Pro. It lets traders place orders directly on the order book, read detailed charts and use a wider range of order types, and it charges fees in a different way from the standard app.
What is the difference between Coinbase Advanced and Coinbase?
The standard Coinbase screen is built for quick purchases. Coinbase says simple trades include a spread in the quoted price plus a separate Coinbase fee, both shown on the order preview. Limit orders on the simple screen carry their own 1% execution fee.
Coinbase Advanced works like a traditional exchange. Coinbase says no spread is included because you trade directly against the order book, where buyers and sellers post their prices. Instead, you pay a maker or taker fee on each trade. The product page lists more than 500 spot pairs, customizable workspaces, and REST and WebSocket APIs for automated trading. Derivatives, including dated futures and perpetual-style contracts with up to 10x leverage, are offered in some markets through Coinbase Financial Markets. Our guide to crypto futures and leverage explains the extra risks.
What are the Coinbase Advanced fees?
Coinbase Advanced uses a maker-taker model. A maker order adds liquidity by resting on the book, while a taker order fills right away against existing orders. Takers usually pay more. Our guide on limit vs market orders covers the idea.
Your tier depends on your trailing 30-day volume or your USDC balance, whichever works out better for you, and the tier at the time of an order sets its fee. In a September 16, 2026 update, Coinbase said volume tiers now begin at $10,000 in qualifying volume, down from $25,000, and listed US spot entry-level rates of 0.50% maker and 0.90% taker. Rates are lower in some other regions and fall further at high volume. Coinbase says fees can change and are always shown on the order preview. Stablecoin pairs follow a separate schedule.
Coinbase One's zero trading fee perk does not cover Coinbase Advanced, though higher Coinbase One tiers offer partial fee rebates there.
How do you use Coinbase Advanced?
Coinbase Advanced is available on the web and in the Coinbase mobile app. You pick a trading pair, check the chart and order book, then choose an order type. Coinbase lists six:
- Market fills right away at the best available price.
- Limit fills only at your price or better.
- Take profit/stop loss attaches exit prices to a new order.
- Bracket sets exit prices for an existing position.
- Stop-limit places a limit order once a trigger price is reached.
- TWAP splits a large order into smaller trades over a set period.
Advanced tools do not change the basics of crypto fees, and a lower fee per trade can still add up for frequent traders.
