Why is my crypto withdrawal pending?

A crypto withdrawal is pending while the exchange runs checks or the blockchain confirms it. Manual reviews and busy networks can add time.

A crypto withdrawal shows as pending when it has not finished one of two stages. Either the exchange is still processing it, or it has been sent to the blockchain and is waiting for confirmations. Most pending withdrawals clear without any action, but the cause decides what, if anything, you can do.

Why is my crypto withdrawal pending on an exchange?

Before a withdrawal reaches the blockchain, the exchange checks it. Kraken's help center describes the stages clearly as of October 2026:

  • Initiated. Kraken runs internal checks, which can take up to 10 minutes.
  • Pending. Checks are done and the withdrawal is with Kraken's payment gateway, for up to another 10 minutes.
  • Sending. The transaction is on the network, awaiting confirmation.
  • On hold. Staff must review it manually, and you may be contacted.

Kraken lets you request a cancellation only during the first two stages, and a cancellation is not guaranteed once the status is pending. Bitvavo similarly says it may run an extra compliance check before submitting a withdrawal. Crypto.com, Coinbase and other platforms use their own labels, so check the status descriptions in their help centers. Exchanges also apply limits and holds for security, covered in why exchanges have withdrawal limits and why crypto is on hold on Coinbase.

Why is my bitcoin withdrawal pending?

Once broadcast, a bitcoin transaction waits in the mempool until a miner includes it in a block. Coinbase's help center lists several reasons this can take longer:

  • Network volume. When more transactions are waiting than a block can hold, some wait longer.
  • Low fee. A very small transaction with too low a miner fee may never confirm.
  • Node sync. Coinbase's nodes can briefly fall out of sync, which usually resolves within an hour.

Each asset needs a set number of confirmations before the transfer counts as complete. Bitvavo notes that confirmation can take from minutes to several hours depending on the asset and congestion, and that the exchange cannot speed it up. Typical times are covered in how long a crypto transfer takes.

What should you do if a withdrawal stays pending?

  1. Find the transaction ID. If there is none yet, the withdrawal is still inside the exchange.
  2. Look it up. Paste the ID into a block explorer to see confirmations. See how to use a blockchain explorer.
  3. Check status pages. Exchanges post network maintenance and service problems.
  4. Confirm the receiving side. If the transaction is confirmed but missing, the receiving wallet or platform has to credit it, so contact them with the ID.
  5. Contact the exchange if an internal status does not change.

Can a fake support line make it worse?

Yes. The FTC warns that scammers post fake customer service numbers that appear high in search results. They may ask for payment, account passwords or remote access to your device. Reach support only through the exchange's own app or the address you type yourself, and never share your password or recovery phrase.
