How do you buy USDC?
To buy USDC, most people use an exchange or a wallet's buy feature, pay with a bank transfer or debit card, and choose which blockchain to receive it on.
To buy USDC, you typically open an account on a crypto exchange or use the buy feature in a wallet app, pay with dollars, and receive the stablecoin. USDC is a dollar stablecoin issued by Circle. Circle issues and redeems it directly only for institutions, so ordinary buyers go through a platform, the reverse of the route in how to convert USDC to USD.
How do you buy USDC on Coinbase?
Coinbase's page for USDC describes the usual exchange steps. You create an account, verify your identity with an ID, link a bank account, debit card or wire transfer, then search for USDC under Buy and sell, enter an amount and confirm. Circle's own walkthrough adds that the USDC is credited to the account instantly or within a few minutes depending on the payment method, and that it stays in Coinbase's custody unless you withdraw it.

How do you buy USDC on Solana or MetaMask?
USDC is issued natively on many blockchains, including Ethereum, Solana, Base, Arbitrum and Polygon, according to Circle's developer documentation. A token on one chain does not automatically work on another.
Circle's guide to USDC on Solana lists four routes: buy on an exchange and choose Solana as the withdrawal network, swap SOL for USDC in a Solana wallet such as Phantom, use a wallet's built-in swap, or move USDC from another chain with a bridge. It says Ethereum USDC will not appear on Solana by itself and that sending on the wrong network can mean a permanent loss. You also need a little SOL to pay network fees.
In MetaMask, the Buy button connects you with third-party providers. MetaMask's help page says US and UK users see Transak quotes by default, with debit cards, bank transfers, Apple Pay and Google Pay among the options. MetaMask does not process the payment itself, and the provider may ask for identity checks.
Can you buy USDC with a credit card?
It depends on the platform. As of October 2026, Coinbase's USDC page says credit cards cannot be used to buy USDC, while bank accounts, debit cards, wire transfers and, for US customers, PayPal can. Other providers set their own rules, and card issuers may treat a crypto purchase as a cash advance. The credit card guide explains that cost.
How do you buy USDC without fees?
No route is guaranteed to be free. Coinbase says its fee depends on location, payment method, order size and market conditions, and shows it on the preview screen. Circle's walkthrough notes that a debit card generally costs more than a bank transfer. Wallet on-ramps show each provider's total cost in the quote. Moving USDC on a blockchain afterward also costs a network fee, which differs from chain to chain.
Stablecoins can briefly lose their dollar value, and they carry no deposit insurance.
