Why is Venmo crypto not available in my region?
Venmo crypto not available in your region usually means you are outside the US, in a restricted state, or using a network or feature limited where you are.
Venmo crypto is "not available in your region" usually because of where Venmo thinks you are. Venmo offers crypto only in the US, says it is limited in certain states, and does not offer it where local law prohibits it. Location checks, account type and the network you pick can all trigger the message. The details below come from Venmo's help pages and terms as of October 2026. Buying on Venmo is covered in how to buy bitcoin on Cash App, PayPal or Venmo.
Why does Venmo say crypto is not available in your region?
Venmo's crypto page says the service is only for US customers and is limited in certain states, but it does not list the states. The underlying PayPal terms, which also cover Venmo-linked crypto accounts, say some features may not be available in some US locations.
Other checks matter too:
- Being abroad. Venmo says you cannot sign in to your account from outside the US.
- A VPN. Venmo says that if you are in the US but see an error saying you are abroad, the first step is to turn off any VPN, then try a different Wi-Fi network or mobile data.
- Account type. Crypto is for personal profiles only, not business or charity profiles.
- Verification. Venmo requires identity verification, including a Social Security number or ITIN, and does not accept expired IDs.
Since May 19, 2026, Venmo's crypto services have been provided by PayPal Digital Inc. Rules on where crypto can be offered are covered in state crypto licenses.
Why is a Venmo crypto transfer not available in your region?
Venmo's transfer page says some networks may not be available in certain regions because of regulatory requirements. So buying may work while a send on a particular network does not. Transfers also require identity verification first. Sending is possible to other Venmo users, PayPal users and outside wallets, and both sides must use the same network.
What are Venmo crypto limits?
Venmo lists these limits:
- Purchases. $20,000 per calendar week and $50,000 per rolling 12 months.
- Transfers. $25,000 per week.
- Minimum. $1 per purchase or sale.
Purchases or sales can also be declined if a limit is hit, a payment method fails, or Venmo's security systems flag the activity, in which case Venmo suggests trying again later. If you sell or send crypto bought recently, Venmo may wait for the original payment to settle, releasing funds within up to seven days.
What are Venmo crypto fees?
Venmo charges a fee on most buys and sells that falls as the amount rises, from 2.20% on $1 to $74.99 down to 1.50% on the largest tier, plus a spread built into the exchange rate. Buying and selling PayPal USD carries no fee. Sending to another Venmo or PayPal account is free, while sending to an outside address costs a network fee shown before you confirm. Moving cash to a bank is free by standard transfer, or 1.75% for an instant transfer, between $0.25 and $25.
Selling crypto can be taxable. See how crypto is taxed in the US.
