How to buy Cardano, step by step
To buy Cardano (ADA) you use an exchange that lists it, verify your identity, fund your account and place an order, then hold it there or in a Cardano wallet.
Learning how to buy Cardano means following a short process: choose a platform that lists ADA, open and verify an account, add money, place an order, and decide where to store the coins. Our guide to what Cardano is covers how the network itself works. This page explains the process only and is not a recommendation to buy ADA.
How do you buy Cardano on Coinbase?
As of October 2026, Coinbase's Cardano page says ADA is available on its exchange. The steps are the same as for other coins. You create an account, complete identity verification with a government ID, link a bank account or card, then search for Cardano and enter an amount. Coinbase shows fees before you confirm. The page also says ADA can be staked on Coinbase where staking is allowed, which depends on your location.
How do you move Cardano to your own wallet?
Many buyers keep ADA on the exchange. Others withdraw it to a self-custody wallet. Cardano.org lists more than a dozen wallets, including Lace, Eternl, Typhon, VESPR and Daedalus. All are labeled non-custodial, several support hardware wallets, and Daedalus is a full-node wallet that downloads the blockchain. The site says it does not endorse any of them.
To withdraw, copy your wallet's receiving address, paste it into the exchange's withdrawal screen, choose the Cardano network and confirm. Double-check the address before sending, since blockchain transfers cannot be reversed.
Can you buy a Cardano ETF?
This is the part that changes fastest. A filing to register the Grayscale Cardano Trust ETF was made in August 2025. On August 7, 2026, Grayscale asked the SEC to withdraw it, saying it did not intend to go ahead and that no shares had been sold. CryptoSlate reported that this left no active US spot ADA filing, even though regulated ADA futures had by then traded for six months, one route to faster listing under SEC rules. A futures-based Cardano fund does exist, but it does not hold ADA directly.
As of October 2026, we could not confirm any US spot Cardano ETF trading. New filings can appear at any time, so check the SEC's EDGAR database or your broker for the latest. For how ETFs differ from holding coins, see Bitcoin ETF vs owning bitcoin.
How do you buy Cardano in Canada?
Canadians generally buy through a crypto trading platform registered with provincial securities regulators. The Ontario Securities Commission keeps a list that includes Coinbase Canada, Kraken's Canadian entity, Wealthsimple, Shakepay, Newton and Bitbuy, among others. Whether a platform lists ADA is up to that platform. The regulator notes that crypto held on such a platform does not carry the protections of a regulated bank deposit.
