To buy Litecoin, you open an account with a platform that lists LTC, verify your identity, add money and place a buy order. Litecoin is one of the older coins, so it is offered by many exchanges and by some payment and brokerage apps. What the coin is and how it differs from Bitcoin is covered in what Litecoin is.

How do you buy Litecoin on Coinbase?

Coinbase's guide for US buyers sets out these steps:

  1. Sign up in the app and verify your account with a valid ID, and possibly proof of address.
  2. Link a bank account, debit card or wire transfer.
  3. Open Buy & Sell, tap Buy and search for Litecoin.
  4. Enter an amount in dollars. Purchases start from about $1.
  5. Review the order and tap Buy now.

Coinbase says its fee depends on location, payment method, order size and market conditions, and it appears on the trade preview before you confirm. As of October 2026, LTC is also listed as tradable by Robinhood, with no New York restriction shown, and by Fidelity Crypto, where Fidelity says availability depends on your state.

How do you buy Litecoin with PayPal?

There are two ways. PayPal's own crypto service lets US customers buy, sell, hold and transfer Litecoin, alongside bitcoin, ether, bitcoin cash, Solana, Chainlink and PayPal USD. On the web you open Finances, select Buy, choose the coin, set an amount and a one-time or recurring schedule, then pick a payment method and confirm. PayPal says you can pay with your PayPal balance, a bank account or a debit card, but not a credit card or PayPal Credit. An up-to-date ID is required.

PayPal can also be the payment method on Coinbase. Coinbase says only US customers can use PayPal to buy LTC. Elsewhere, PayPal can be used only to sell or cash out. How PayPal's service works more broadly is explained in how crypto on PayPal works.

Can you buy Litecoin on Cash App?

No. Cash App says it is built for bitcoin and stablecoins, and Litecoin is not offered, as of October 2026. Cash App can still be used for bitcoin, as covered in how to buy bitcoin on Cash App, PayPal or Venmo. To hold LTC you would need a different platform.

Can you buy Litecoin with a credit card?

Usually not in the US. Coinbase says credit cards cannot be used to buy Litecoin, and PayPal excludes them too. Kraken accepts credit cards with 3D Secure for clients outside the US, but US clients can use only debit cards. Kraken also warns that card issuers may add their own charges, such as cash advance fees. The wider picture is in can you buy crypto with a credit card.

If you later move LTC to a personal wallet, check that the wallet supports Litecoin and that the address is a Litecoin address. Sending to an address on another network can mean losing the coins.
